Hi, I'm Laurie!

One of the thing I find most important is to build a connection with my clients. So it is only fair that you can get to know me more!

I was around 22 when I learned that I wanted to be a teacher. It became clearer during my third year of bachelor degree. My major was Japanese language and literature and my minor was French as a Foreign Language. I then KNEW that I wanted to become a teacher of French as a Foreign Language (if you do not know what it is, it is basically a teacher that teaches French for non francophone people, people who do not have French as their mother tongue and who are willing to learn). After finishing my bachelor's degree in Paris where I stayed there for over 5 years, I went to do my master's degree in the South West of France, in Pau.

I stayed there 3 years as I have taken a gap year between my first year and second year of master's. I have met wonderful people, mostly former teachers with whom I worked with and I learned a lot about preventing drug and alcohol abuse but also how to administer first aid and how to teach it to children and teenagers.

During my second year of master's degree, I decided to do my placement at the Alliance Française de Canberra, the French school in Turner where I stayed for 3 years. So, I arrived in Canberra in January 2020 and never left!

I met the love of my life a few weeks after arriving here and we are getting married next year. After a few two rough years on a family level and lot of grief, I am ready for a new adventure and I cannot wait to start it with you!

My hobbies

Craft activities

A little bit less than two years ago, I have started to learn how to sew. It is not popular in France and it is a craft that is not learnt at school. So far, I can sew totebags. It's not a lot but I will keep on learning!

The harp

I have started learning the harp a year and a half ago and it is amazing! I am totally new to playing music so it's still new for me but as a beginner, I can definitely see the progress looking back at just a few weeks ago when I had know prior knowledge. It feels so good to learn something new!

TV series and cinema

I am an adept of TV series and movies and more particularly of the science fiction genre. If you like this genre/ type of movies, tv series or even podcast, let's discuss!
